What kind of things are keeping you occupied and sane?
I am in art college so I still have alot of my work to finish and hand in to meet deadlines.
My boyfriend is a baker
"we’ve both been baking alot, inspiring each other to try new adventurous recipes we’d never try before. "
I’ve made so much bread I may become a pastry chef after this.
So you still do you college work? Do you prefer working from home?
Yeah we correspond through emails and messenger. The teachers want to video call alot and that one on one time just feels kind of awkward.
I definitely prefer going to class.
"It gets me up early in the morning, it keeps me on a schedule, it has me go to bed early."
I miss the company. We are a close class and inspire each other, keep each other going. We are not as connected to each other right now.
Probably convicted by how much we are all slacking off. It’s also alot easier to understand the work, ask questions.
"I don’t have access to any of the materials so I may have to drop some of the classes."
What’s been one of your favourite things that has come out of being on lockdown.
Mainly family time. I used to have class from 8am to 6pm. I was so busy. I never saw my nephew because he was always asleep by the time I finally arrived home and I felt I was missing on his growing up.
Whats your least favourite things about the lockdown.
An obvious one, the restrictions. I feel so suffocated by the fact there are these regulations that are part of the law. Just someone saying that ‘your not allowed to go outside’ makes me feel like my freedom has been take away.
"Rather than us all choosing to collectively do the right thing. But I get it. People were not choosing the right thing. Our health system is extremely fragile. The government did what it needed to do."
Has the lockdown and isolation changed your mindset in any way.
It’s made me more grateful. We have a big garden and I realise how incredibly lucky we are. But in a way how unfair that is. That we are lucky. Does that make sense. We happen to have a garden and can be outside every day. Other people are locked in their flats in the city. I don’t know if thats right.
"This lockdown is being experienced by every single person in the world. But not in the same way. "
Has the lockdown provided you with any opportunities you wouldn’t have had otherwise?
"It’s given me the time to think alot about my future. The time to be melancholic. I don’t have the distractions I used to."
Generally in my free time I used to dance. I suffered an foot injury and after alot of physical therapy had to have an operation. Right now if things were different I would be working on my dance everyday. But I can’t. I wanted to be a dancer. But I won’t be. Everyone was preparing to go study. I was just focusing on my work. So this time has given me the time to figure out who I am without dance.
